The need for independent quality control in solar production
The price of PV modules has dropped tremendously in recent years. This is partly because of the improving production processes in manufacturing countries such as China and the rest of Asia. A downside of this development is, that the quality of solar modules imported from Asia has come under further pressure. Within Eternal Sun, we see evidence of this every day in our laboratory in the port of Rotterdam. For example, our measurements indicate that 66% of all imported PV modules are below nominal value. In fact, 15% of all PV modules are below the margin of error. It is no secret that less critical customers end up receiving the worse PV modules. Therefore, doing proper import testing is crucial. But you can go a step further to ensure the quality of your PV modules by doing PV Factory Inspections. This way defects in PV modules can be determined. Common defects in PV modules are: foreign matters, scratched glass, insufficient adhesive strength, solar cell crack, Soldering issues and micro-cracks.

Our second PV laboratory is located in the Port of Valencia. At this location we also perform EL testing and IV testing.
